What is the quality reference?
Use one approved final sample linked to a specification for each product and fragrance. Record the product name, scent code, fill volume, container, closure, intended use and artwork version. Keep clear images of the sample and label, plus the approval date and decision maker. If a component changes later, ask how it affects performance, price and timing before accepting the revision.
Five checks for a finished air freshener batch
- Fragrance and performance: test in the intended setting and for an agreed period. Compare with the approved sample rather than memory.
- Fill and appearance: check the agreed volume, liquid appearance where relevant and consistency of the container.
- Closure and leakage: inspect the sprayer, diffuser stopper or car fragrance cap and request a test suited to the planned transport route.
- Label and unit pack: review product name, language, symbols, instructions and batch information where applicable, as well as print quality.
- Shipping carton: check piece count, inner protection, outside markings and consistency with the packing list.
When should checks take place?
The first review is the sample and specification approval before production. During production, agree on checkpoints appropriate to the batch and components. Before dispatch, review a sample of the finished batch, packing images, carton count and order documents. Set out in advance how differences will be handled: correction, replacement or written approval of a change. A verbal acceptance is difficult to verify later.

The brand and manufacturer should agree on an approved sample and a clear test method. A subjective phrase such as “smells good” is not a reliable acceptance criterion.
Is smelling a fragrance on paper enough?
It can help with an early selection, but the finished product should also be tested in its intended format and setting.
What if the production batch differs from the sample?
